At the time I visited Northumberland, an outbreak of Bird Flu had hit many bird populations. Consequently, the National Trust had closed the Farne Islands to any landings. Fortunately, the experienced local tour boats from Seahouses, are able to get close enough to the islands without the need to land or run the gauntlet of the vicious Common Terns who attach the heads of tourists!
