Large numbers of Redshank (Tringa totanus) fly here from Iceland to spend the winter around our coasts.

The Redshanks with the darker upper body and white underneath are rarer Spotted Redshanks. Spotted Redshanks (Tringa erythropus) avoid competition with common Redshanks by feeding in deeper water. They have longer legs and longer bills, and are better able to wade, swim or even up-end, like ducks, with head and neck submerged.
