Otter
These pictures are all taken from some of my fantastic experiences with Otters on the Isle of Mull. Quite shy creatures, it is necessary to use some fieldcraft skills (camouflage, being downwind, patient and lucky) to observe these beautiful animals without affecting their lives.
On Mull, Otters are to be found around the entire coast. Many of these Otter images were taken with one particular Otter. I started watching her from a distance (downwind, behind large boulders and camouflaged) and she kept bringing crabs ashore closer and closer, right in front of me to eat (her, not me!). She definitely knew I was there. After an hour and half, she wandered off to her holt, but kept waiting for me to follow her! In some of the pictures when she was on grass, you can see my reflection in her eye! What a privilege. I did not affect her behaviour and she was obviously not concerned.
