Horn Mill is a working trout farm near Oakham. When it was first set up and the Ospreys were re-introduced, they found they were losing 1,000 fish per season to the Ospreys. After discussion with the Rutland Osprey Project, they decided to net all their ponds except one. At this uncovered pond, they then built a hide set into the ground so that the 6 photographers in the hide are almost at water level.

The photographers then wait and hope the birds will put in an appearance, but there are no guarantees. This session was from 1630-2100, but with sunset at 2030, unfortunately the only Osprey to fish arrived at 2025 when the light was fading fast. These photos are the ones which I rescued from that session!  

In fact, the light was so poor, this bird (who is known for his accuracy and speed) made several failed attempts before catching a fish.
